Life happens! If you've been approved for a shift but can no longer work it, KOVR offers a "Shift Giveaway" feature. This allows you to post your shift to the community so another qualified worker can take it, avoiding a cancellation penalty.
How to Give Away a Shift
- Open the Schedule tab and select the shift.
- Tap Shift Options (three dots or "Manage").
- Select Give Away Shift.
- Confirm you want to post the shift to the marketplace.
Important: You are still responsible for the shift until another worker accepts it and the employer approves the swap. If nobody takes it, you must still work the shift or cancel it (subject to thecancellation policy).
How Swapping Works
Swapping is a two-step process:
- The Offer: You post your shift. Other qualified workers are notified.
- The Acceptance: A worker "Claims" the shift. The employer is then asked to approve the new worker.
- Completion: Once the employer approves, the shift is moved from your schedule to theirs. You are no longer responsible.
Shift Give-Away Rules
- Timing: You can only start a giveaway up to 4 hours before the shift starts. Less than 4 hours requires a direct cancellation.
- Qualifications: Only workers who meet all the original shift requirements (ratings, certifications) can see and claim your giveaway.
- Notifications: You will receive a push notification the moment your shift is successfully claimed and approved.

- Reliability Score: Successful giveaways do not negatively impact your reliability score.
- Community: It helps other workers find last-minute opportunities.
- Employer Trust: Employers appreciate that the position was filled rather than left empty.
